For those shooters tired of Pinocchio’s nose affixed to their camera, Sennheiser comes to the rescue with the MKE 400 microphone.
The MKE 400 is a miniature shotgun microphone that Sennheiser characterizes as “distinctly directional.” A control enables the supercardioid/lobar pattern to be directed precisely at the subject in the lens. A low-cut filter is included to tame wind and rumble. The output is a 3.5-millimeter connector. The MKE 400 is powered by a single AAA battery that should be good enough for 300 or so hours. An optional kit includes a fuzzy windscreen and a 3.5-millimeter-to-XLR adapter.
