Accuweather made a splash at the NAB Show last year with their CinemaLive HD Weather system, a presentation approach that inserts talent “in the weather” with cinema-quality, 3D virtual sets and scenes based on no-rendering architecture that is live on every layer. This year, v2.0 is debuting. The update includes a true 360 degree 3-D weather graphics environment, incorporates Microsoft Virtual Earth (which gives CinemaLive the power to zoom to 3D street corner level wherever the day’s weather story is happening) and redesigned, reengineered and expanded data sources, which include real-time local storm reports, mesonet data from 11,833 weather stations, lightning data with real-time strike information and Level II NEXRAD Doppler radar. Also on display is a new generation of their FirstWarn ScreenCrawler and v3.0 of their SelectWarn Severe Weather System, which features street-level, severe-weather radar and geohazard tools, including animated flood-inundation mapping.
