Aiming at the ultraportable digital multichannel field recorder/mixer market, Zaxcom is launching the Fusion. The Fusion eschews internal hard drive recording instead choosing removable CompactFlash solid-state cards. These cards are addressed redundantly during recording for assurance. Onboard digital mixing and DSP provide over 300 mixer crosspoints and 200 controllable parameters. There is even an onboard sample rate converter for handling varied digital inputs.
The Deva 16 Hard-Disk Audio Recorder/Mixer is the latest in the Deva line. The Deva 16 is a 16-channel digital recorder with an integrated hard drive, DVD-RAM, and CompactFlash memory card slot. A FireWire port can connect to an external drive. The Deva 16 is fully compatible with Avid and Pro Tools systems. It has eight analog mic/line inputs with 48 V phantom power, four analog line inputs, and eight digital inputs. A 16-channel, 24-bus digital mixer is built-in to the unit, providing EQ, notch filter, compressor, and delay per channel. An additional plus is Deva Sound Report, a program that generates Excel files containing production metadata.
