NAB DAILY NEWS
Roland Systems Group has introduced its first portable video recording device uniquely designed to capture HDV or DV video while supplying two additional XLR audio inputs.
The Edirol F-1 is a compact unit with a 6-pin FireWire input for connection to any HDV or DV camera on the market. The F-1 also allows the user to connect two additional XLR audio sources providing a total of four audio tracks synched to video.
“The F-1 not only adds more audio channels to the two that come with HDV or DV, but provides a higher quality signal,” said John Broadhead, vice president of Technology and Communications.
QUALITY AUDIO
The F-1 provides superior preamps and records audio in 16-bit/48 Hz. The extra audio channels are locked to the video and accompany the video stream as uncompressed linear Broadcast WAV files.
Video and audio are stored on a removable 120 GB hard drive which can be swapped with a spare one, allowing the user to continue shooting. The F-1 can also be connected to a computer for immediate editing and has no file size limitation when recording.
“The F-1 is so versatile, it can be used as a recording device or it can double as a deck for editing,” Broadhead added. “It also plugs into a PC and it is IP-addressable. You can actually put the F-1 on a network for status and control.”
The F-1 includes an RGB output for quick connection to a monitor for viewing.
Free software is also available that provides an interface for viewing video with the accompanying four channels of audio as well as file management. The software also includes a basic HDV editor for making assembly cuts and viewing video immediately after recording.
Roland also displayed new additions to its lineup, including the V-8 eight-channel video mixer, which accepts eight composite or S-video inputs and feeds to three outputs. The V-8 includes a range of video effects and includes a computer input allowing one to integrate graphics, logos or text.
Roland also unveiled the new Edirol R-44, a compact, four-channel, solid-state field recorder. The R-44 records four channels of uncompressed audio onto SD or large capacity SDHC cards in 16- or 24-bit rates. Onboard effects include limiter, low-cut filter, three-band EQ, six-band GEQ, enhancer and de-esser. The four combo input jacks support XLR or 1/4-inch plugs and provide phantom power.
