NAB DAILY NEWS
An exciting job in broadcasting is just an interview away at the NAB Show’s Career Day event.
Celebrating its 11th year of increasing diversity in the broadcasting industry, this all-day affair will help eager participants achieve their goals.
Taking place today, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. at the Hilton, the event is produced by the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF), Broadcast Education Association (BEA) and Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA).
Sponsors include Edge Technology Services, Emmis Communications and Tandberg Television.
“We are looking forward to co-hosting Career Day,” said RTNDA Vice President of Conventions & Special Projects Rick Osmanski. “We believe the fair plays an important role in our commitment to achieving diversity in the newsroom through developing news content and editorial staffs that reflect the changing face of America.”
Career Day kicks off at 9 a.m. with group panel sessions, a unique opportunity to converse face-to-face with leading professionals and executives in broadcasting.
PERFECT FORUM
“The events featured at the career fair will advance job prospects for numerous attendees,” said BEA Executive Director Heather Birks. “This is the perfect forum for future broadcasters to learn every tool possible to succeed in the business.”
The objective of these sessions is to target those looking for the next step: the experienced professional desiring a move into management; mid-level employees eyeing the next market; and entry-level newcomers aiming for that first job in broadcasting.
Following the group panel discussion is the career fair, which runs from 10:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Attendance is encouraged among entry-level job seekers, college students and experienced professionals with an interest in starting or advancing their career in the broadcast industry.
Job openings and career advice will be available in the fields of television broadcasting, radio broadcasting, film/motion pictures, graphics/animation, audio-video production/post production and Internet broadcasting/computer.
Approximately 1,500 job seekers and nearly 60 media-related companies will occupy the same space. An indication of the growing importance of NAB’s Career Day is the fact that 2007’s recruiter enrollment numbers increased significantly over 2006’s Career Day figures.
Recruiters among the prominent list of companies include ESPN, CBS Television Stations/CBS Radio, Randstad USA, Discovery Communications LLC, Cox Television, McGraw-Hill Broadcasting, Univision Radio, Hubbard Broadcasting Inc., Beasley Broadcast Group and the Oregon Broadcasters Association.
“This is the largest broadcasting career fair in the country,” said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. “For job seekers considering opportunities in radio and television, this is a must-attend event.”
A non-profit organization, the NABEF is committed to a variety of support and advocacy programs including training and education, community service, strategies to further diversity, philanthropy, timely broadcasting issues and the significance of the First Amendment.
Career Day admission is free, though preregistration is required. Attendees are encouraged to bring their résumés and any DVD/VHS samples if applicable.
