TV TECHNOLOGY
The demand for online content is exploding on the Internet and this, in turn, creates opportunities for content creators, distributors and advertisers.
Jason Kilar will share his insights into the win-win scenario created when media are made available to consumers on their terms. His keynote, “Video When, Where and How You Want It,” today, 5 p.m., is part of the Spotlight Series.
Kilar is chief executive officer of Hulu, an online video joint venture between NBC Universal and News Corp. that streams premium television shows, movies and clips. Since its launch in October 2007, Hulu has won praise for its superior consumer experience, particularly its well-designed user interface and lineup of premium content.
“The focus of the presentation will be on the combination of innovative advertising, technology and distribution models that enable content creators and distributors to quickly and profitably bring content to consumers online,” Kilar said. “As the demand for premium content online increases, making content truly easy will lead to growing opportunities for content providers.”
VYING FOR IT ALL
Increasingly, today’s savvy Internet users want premium content in an environment that includes both the video viewing experience as well as the advertising experience. Kilar’s keynote will address new approaches for distribution over IP. He plans to also detail how consumer interaction and feedback will play a powerful role in reaching expanding audiences in this new media era.
“Attendees will get insight on the growing opportunity for content creators, distributors and advertisers when media is made available on consumer’s terms,” Kilar said. “New models of distribution that give users more control and flexibility to share and gives users an outlet for conversation are proving to be very effective at maximizing the audience for a given show or film.”
Jason Kilar joined Hulu after nearly a decade at Amazon.com, where he was senior vice president, Worldwide Application Software, reporting directly to Amazon.com Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos. During his career at Amazon, Kilar served as vice president and general manager of Amazon’s North American media businesses, leading the company’s entry into the video and DVD markets. Kilar began his career with The Walt Disney Company, where he worked for Disney Design & Development.
Hulu is an online video service that offers a selection of hit shows, clips, movies, and more at Hulu.com and other destination sites online. Hulu’s selection of premium programming is provided by leading content companies, including NBC, FOX, MGM, Sony Pictures Television, as well as Access Hollywood, National Geographic, Oxygen, SPEED, Sundance Channel, Sci Fi Network, USA Network, Versus and World Wrestling Entertainment among many others. This content is available on Hulu.com and distributed through Hulu’s partners: AOL, Comcast, MSN, MySpace and Yahoo!
