Blackmagic Design CEO Grant Petty explained at the company’s Monday press conference that he liked to reinvent traditionally broadcast products “for post people.”
With that in mind, Petty announced the Broadcast Videohub, an SDI router developed and designed for post-production studios. The Broadcast Videohub includes 72 SDI inputs, 144 SDI outputs, 72-deck control ports, twin redundant power connections, SDI reclocking and 3 Gbps SDI technology, held in an eight-rack unit.
The product was designed to eliminate manual patching within the post environment, Grant explained, because for non-engineers like creative professionals working at smaller post-production studios, “patching cables manually is very intimidating, and complicated. Now they can change connections from their desktop computer, so it’s much easer to understand.”
Also announced was a family of Mini Converters engineered, Petty continued, “as converters for post people.” With five models, the converters include 3 Gbps SDI technology, redundant SDI inputs, balanced analog and AES/EBU switchable audio, 1/4-inch jack audio connections and an international power supply that includes adapter plates for international power sockets.
All models have the same basic features, with one model for each type of conversion: Mini Converter SDI to Analog, Mini Converter Analog to SDI, Mini Converter SDI to HDMI and Mini Converter HDMI to SDI. The Mini Converter Sync Generator, the fifth product in the family, is a black burst and trisync sync generator model.
Additionally, Blackmagic Design announced its Video Recorder, a compact USB video capture product that captures files direct to H.264 files for iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, YouTube, IPTV, Web or full-resolution archiving. The H.264 file format used with Video Recorder allows direct capture to files compatible with mobile devices such as iPods.
