“As film acquisition moves increasingly into the digital realm,” said MTI Film CEO Larry Chernoff at the company’s Sunday press conference, “we wanted to offer a color correction solution outside of the traditional telecine suite.”

With this in mind, MTI is adding Control Color to its Control Dailies product line. A primary color corrector that can be used to color correct dailies in a nonlinear environment — directly from a film scanner or any digital acquisition medium — Control Color also features an integrated still store, a trackball control panel, and the ability to import and export color decision lists (CDLs).

On the show floor, MTI and ARRI are demonstrating a 2K dailies workflow at the ARRI booth. An ARRI film scanner is being used to scan 35mm film to 2K DPX files and record them to a SAN. Then, as each camera roll’s take is scanned, Pandora’s YoYo nonlinear data management technology generates a real-time HD 4:4:4 stream for color correction through a Pandora Revolution color corrector.

MTI Film’s Control Dailies then captures the color-corrected HD 4:4:4 media, as well as essential metadata, including an ASC compliant color decision list (CDL). Control Dailies also generates SD proxies from the HD 4:4:4 media. The system also generates Avid Log Exchange (ALE) files from the database, including CDL metadata.

“This new workflow will be an additional breakthrough for post houses using Control Dailies, allowing them to process dailies at the peak of productivity,” said Chernoff. “Redundancies have been eliminated and routine tasks have been automated.”

Also announced was the release of Correct V7, the latest version of MTI’s digital film and restoration software. With a new user interface, and an emphasis on increased productivity, V7 offers a unified tool panel with all of the software’s various plug-ins integrated into a single screen, as well as a revamped keyboard layout.
